In short

Pickode is a browser extension with a built-in HLS downloader: it saves unprotected HLS (m3u8) and DASH streams you have the right to keep as a single MP4 file. Pickode picks up the stream from the page's network requests, lets you choose quality and audio track, and downloads 5 segments in parallel. DRM-protected video, encrypted streams, live streams and YouTube are refused.

How it works

Streaming video in three steps.

  1. 01

Open the page with the stream

Open the Assets panel (Alt+A) and the Video tab. Pickode lists the videos and the HLS (.m3u8) and DASH streams it finds in the page's network requests.

  2. 02

    Choose quality and audio

Pick the video quality and, when the stream has separate tracks, the audio you want.

  3. 03

    Save as MP4

Pickode downloads 5 segments at a time and joins them into one MP4 file, without leaving your browser.

What you get

One file, not hundreds of segments.

  • HLS and DASH

An m3u8 downloader and a DASH video downloader in one, with TS and fMP4 segments, byte ranges, discontinuities and separate audio.

  • Quality and audio choice

Choose the resolution and the audio track before downloading, instead of getting whatever the player picked.

  • 5 segments in parallel

Segments download five at a time and are joined into a single MP4 you can play and edit anywhere.

  • Honest about protection

DRM-protected video, encrypted streams, live streams and YouTube are refused, not worked around.

Questions

Questions about Streaming video.

Can't find your answer?

Read the documentation or write to us.

Can I download any video?

Only unprotected HLS/DASH streams you have the right to save. DRM-protected video, encrypted streams, live streams and YouTube are not supported.

What is an HLS downloader, and does Pickode save m3u8 streams as MP4?

An HLS downloader reads a stream's .m3u8 playlist, downloads its segments and joins them into one file. Pickode does this in your browser, lets you choose quality and audio, and saves the stream as one MP4 file.

Does it support DASH video?

Yes. Pickode handles DASH manifests with SegmentTemplate/Timeline, SegmentList and SegmentBase, including separate audio tracks.

What happens with WebM streams?

They are saved as two files, video and audio, together with the `ffmpeg` command to merge them into one.

Is the HLS downloader free?

No, streaming video is a Pro feature. You can try it with the 7-day Pro trial, no card needed.

Is it legal to save a streaming video?

It depends on your rights to the content. Use Pickode for your own videos or streams you are authorized to save; it refuses DRM-protected and encrypted video by design.

Is there an HLS downloader Chrome extension?

Yes. Pickode includes an HLS and DASH downloader inside the extension, for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc, Comet and Firefox 140+. Streaming video is a Pro feature.
